Jacob's 2 Year Update

Jacob is the big whoppin' 2 year old now!

He is a super fun little ball of unending energy.  He is 'crazy' in the words of Chris. Jacob loves to climb everything... hang from anything... running full force everywhere. He keeps me on my toes and has a determined personality & fast feet. He runs everywhere as soon as he gets up in the morning.  He wakes up saying 'Outside.'  He would rather play outside than eat food or watch TV or do anything! (logical choice this day was to put the bike in the pool all by himself)

He wears size 2T shirts and 18-24 mo shorts.  He can attempt to put his own Tshirt on.  He wears size 7 or 8 shoe, depending on the shoe/sandal.  

He loves to watch the guys play baseball on the fields at the park near our house.  He has started to learn how to catch a ball with his hands out in front of him.  He loves to play golf with his plastic clubs and kick any ball while saying 'socca'.

We attempted potty training but it was a flop.  I think I wasn't mentally ready for it that day but we are going to try again in the next couple months.  My goal is to get potty training under control before baby brother comes.  We'll see...

The park ~ trucks & cars ~ riding lawnmower with daddy ~ tricycle/bike ~ 'hammering' everything ~ pool ~ smoothies ~ being outside all hours of the day ~ reading books in bed by himself ~ bubbles in the bathtub ~ dance parties in the kitchen, even though none of us have any rhythm ~ trying to say new words ~ getting tickled ~ jumping in puddles ~ 'helping' cook with mommy ~ Chickfila ~ being naked ~ watching live music at restaurants ~ hanging with his 'buddies' ~ saying 'Song!' at bedtime to delay having to go to sleep ~ fav song is 'Song of the South' ~ throwing rocks in the river ~ 'Emma' (miniature horse at Butlers house) ~ walking around in daddy's/mommy's shoes ~ helping mommy water the plants outside ~ find hiding spots all over the house, esp under his covers ~eating hair out of my hairbrush! (#1quirk!)... he picked that skill up on his own

    

His vocabulary has taken off in the past couple weeks!  He's saying all kinds of words and phrases that I never knew I even said.  He still says 'Hold you' when he wants me to pick him up and I hope that lasts for awhile, I love it!  He also says 'ok' when he really means 'yes'.  (ex: "Jacob, do you want to go play in the pool outside" and he responds 'Ok!' with excitement.... so precious!)

Jacob is full of surprises!  The other day I went in to check on him during nap time and his diaper was laying on top of the covers.  He has managed to take off his diaper, get back under the covers and fall asleep.    Goober!  Good thing I decided to go in & check on him that day.

He is getting ready for baby brother!  He will kiss my belly and he knows baby is in there.  He tells complete strangers 'Baby, mommy's tummy'.  He even made sure the infant carrier was suitable for baby brother while pretending to jam out to fake music.  :)

Jacob has no fear of water.  When we take him swimming at the indoor pool at the YMCA, he will jump off the edge over & over.  He will blow bubbles if we ask him to & sometimes float on his back.  He will kick his legs to make a splash behind him.  One day he might be a good little swimmer!  Since he has no fear, I got him a floaty/ 'puddle jumper' to wear for the pool this summer.  He would probably be the kid to jump in the deep end and think it was the best idea everrrrrr even if no one is there to catch him so I'm thinking its better to be safe!   This pic below truly defines Jacob at his finest... water... naked... pure job & squeals!

He sleeps on a mattress on the floor.  He's been out of his crib since the end of February.  He decided one day to scream bloody murder & would NOT fall asleep in his crib anymore.  We let him sleep on the mattress & told him not to get out of the bed (expecting this not to work at all!) and he didn't get up!  He screamed 'Mommmmmmmy!' when he woke up and was super happy.  Ever since then, there was no going back.  He sleeps in his big boy bed for naps and at night.  I am so grateful this was a smooth transition!  

We also dropped the passy a few months ago.  He put up a little fight for this one but overall, it was pretty smooth.  He bit through one of them and we told him it 'broke' so each time he asked for it, we told him 'Sorry, it broke.'  After about a day or so of him asking for the passy at nap/nighttime, he would tell me it broke and it was all gone.  Since in his head he had a reason that the passy was gone, I think it made it easier for him to let it go.  

He typically eats what we eat for meals.  I wouldn't say he's a terrible eater, but he doesn't like everything either.  He can be eating chicken or pasta and I'll try to squeeze a green bean in there and he'll spit that sucker out so fast!  Right now he asks for cheese all.the.time!  He eats meat pretty well and loves to dip all food.  If we are at home, I try to use applesauce for what we dip thing into... instead of tons of ketchup or sauce.  He still loves avacado and strawberries (pronounced 'dah-bies' in Jacob's world).  He'll eat food that is somewhat spicy and he'll try new stuff, too.

We love our little guy so much and this is such a fun stage!  He's growing up so fast and I love seeing each step of the way.
